Shaheed Bhai Surinder Singh ‘Shinda Galowal’
Amongst the well known Freedom Fighters of the Majha area features the name of Shaheed Bhai Surinder Singh aka Shinda Galowal. Bhai Sahib was born in the village of Kotli Sainian, District Gurdaspur on December 9, 1964. After studying till 10th grade at the state high school of Hargobindpur, Bhai Sahib went on to complete an ITI Mechanical trade course at Kaadian. Upon completion of his course Bhai Surinder Singh began helping his family by farming their ancestral land. During these times the Sikh Freedom movement was at its peak, the movement was widely supported by the masses and villagers gladly fed and provided refuge for the Jujharoos. Bhai Surinder Singh’s home was often visited by Jujharoo Singh’s passing through his village and as a result Bhai Sahib and his family were regularly subjected to police harassment and abuse.

Shaheed Bhai Surinder Singh Shinder
Shaheed Bhai Surinder Singh ‘Shinder’ alias Shinda was born in Nakodar, Punjab on November 1, 1960 to his mother Surjit Kaur and father, Superintendant of Police (S.P.) Sardar Santa Singh Bhaur. Shinder’s father was well respected and had the rank of S.P. in the 1950’s, which was rare to come by for a Sikh in those days. Shinder was raised in Phagwara and educated at Guru Nanak Dev University. As a youth, he was credited by the surrounding communities as being a great marksman because of his track record as a hunter. Shaheed Bhai Navneet Singh Qadian
On April 20, 1961, Bhai Navneet Singh Qadian was born into a Gursikh family of village Qadian, district Gurdaspur, Punjab. His father was Sardar Tirath Singh and mother Bibi Ranjit Kaur. He was their only son and had two sisters. The entire family were Amritdhari Gursikhs. At a very young age, Bhai Sahib showed his yearning to learn about Sikhi and would often go to the local Gurdwara alone to carry out Seva and listen to Katha and Kirtan.
